North Melbourne senior assistant coach John Blakey was unhappy after not telling him directly that Leigh Adams would be the club’s interim coach after the departure of David Noble.
Noble and Roos parted ways this week after 38 turbulent games at the helm, winning just five games while he was at the helm.
Although VFL coach Leigh Adams will take over the team, SEN chief sports reporter Sam Edmund says Blakey was not happy about not being selected for the role and then did not he said directly that the club would go in a different direction.
Edmund said Blakey, who is a key figure in the club’s coaching set-up, was not happy with the communication of key figures in North Melbourne.
“Senior assistant John Blakey is very unhappy that he was not initially chosen to be interim coach and then was not told he was being overlooked for Leigh Adams,” he told SEN’s Crunch Time.
“You’ll assume that given that they took him out of Sydney and they’re paying him a pretty big salary as a senior assistant, most of the time it would be him who would increase as an interim coach.
“It was more the method of communication … they didn’t tell him (they didn’t tell him) the powers that would not be the interim coach.
“He heard it from someone else and it didn’t excite him either.”
Leigh Adams will look for the perfect start to his interim term when North Melbourne face Richmond on Saturday at Marvel Stadium.
