The Panthers recorded a 22-0 lead over the Cowboys at BlueBet Stadium to make sure they entered the Origin period with a four-point lead on the Telstra Premiership ladder.
However, the Cowboys confirmed that they are true contenders with a courageous defensive effort in which they made 425 tackles against only 318 of the first.
Lock Reuben Cotter made 63 tackles on his own, while rookie Jeremiah Nanai and prostitute Reece Robson made 51 tackles each.
All but two members of Penrith’s starting lineup carried the ball for more than 100 meters, led by James Fisher-Harris (220 m) and winger Dylan Edwards (240 m).
After leading 16-0 at the break, it took Penrith until the 71st minute to score the only attempt of the second half, but his defense was excellent and the Cowboys, third, had few chances to score.
Both teams are expected to lose large numbers of players at Origin next week, with North Queensland coach Todd Payten backing Cotter and Nanai to join Val Holmes, Coen Hess and Hamiso Tabuai- Trust the Maroons squad.
The Panthers may have up to seven players on the Blues squad, but the fifth-eighth Jarome Luai is likely to be scrutinized by the game review committee for a shoulder charge on Scott Drinkwater at the end of the game.
Penrith’s second rower, Viliame Kikau, whose dual staff with Nanai was worth only the price of admission, also faces an anxious wait for court charges after being denounced twice.

What they said
“I’m disappointed we didn’t shoot our best shot, but we didn’t allow ourselves in several stages and completed 59 percent. But in saying that I really enjoyed some of our defensive periods. We showed a bit of despair and endurance “We walked away knowing we could win them if we got our fair share of possession. There were moments in the first half I thought they were very worried about the ball, we couldn’t find patience with the last pass.” – Todd Payten, Cowboys coach.

Cowboys: Round 12
“The first half started very well and we left a few here, but overall it was a solid first half. The boys felt quite comfortable, the second half we couldn’t take advantage of the field position. It was difficult to build, we were doing good things but we couldn’t move on to the next play. In the end I was happy with the defensive position “. – Ivan Cleary, Panthers coach.
