It was a busy weekend for Penticton RCMP Cst. Dayne Lyons.

Cst. Lyons hit the pavement around downtown Penticton in search of possible crime opportunities.

“The most important thing I saw were bags, money or phones left in plain sight,” Cst said. Lyon. “Even though you may know that your bag is empty and of no value, a criminal doesn’t know it and you’re the one with a broken window.”

Cst. Lyons issued 22 notices for “possessions or money in sight.”

“Car theft can happen to anyone at any time, prevention is the number one way to make sure you don’t fall victim to it,” he added.

According to the RCMP, car crimes cost more than $ 150 million a year.

“The lost time of the victims, the replacement of the property, the insurance deductibles, the police and judicial costs … the list goes on. Prevention is the number 1 way to reduce these figures,” he added. RCMP in a press release.
