Showers and storms will continue on Monday evening, and rain will continue overnight. There are also possible thunderstorms on Tuesday, but not as widespread as on Monday, as the system recedes.

An area of convergence of the atmosphere centered on parts of the province could also bring the potential for funnel cloud development sometimes throughout the day.

In total, between 50-75 + mm of rain is possible in the locally strongest storms that remain in an area for an extended period of time.

Calgary receives about 94 mm of rain in a typical June. With 30-50 mm of rain in addition to the forecast for parts of the Calgary metropolitan area, we are seeing more than half a month of rain falling in these two days.

Rainfall in the prairies has been a story of all or nothing for the past two months. While the people of Manitoba cannot rest from the persistent flooding, it has been difficult to get much rain in the west recently.

Much of southern Alberta has seen less than half of its normal rainfall over the past 90 days. This next round of constant rain will help wet the soil and begin to reverse some of the damage caused by this prolonged drought.

Drought has increased the risk of fire in much of the region. Be alert for possible evacuation warnings if you are in southern Alberta or southern Saskatchewan. Officials ordered an evacuation Friday due to a wildfire burning north of Crimson Lake in Clearwater County.

The drier conditions will set in and persist until the end of the week, as temperatures pick up the seasons and above the end of the week.

This weekend is expected to be a brief period of very warm to warm weather with temperatures between medium and high 20 degrees, and some points reach 30 ° C south of Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan on Saturday.
