The Queen will miss the Epsom Derby tomorrow, Buckingham Palace said

The Queen will not attend the Epsom Derby on Saturday, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The monarch, a passionate owner and breeder of racehorses, is expected to watch the big television sporting event at Windsor Castle.

It had been speculated that the queen would not appear in the horse race due to mobility issues she experienced during her two appearances on Thursday.

Phil White, London’s regional director for The Jockey Club, said: “It’s a rare occasion for the Queen not to be able to join us at Epsom Downs, but we’re delighted that she plans to enjoy Derby Day on TV.

“We have big plans to celebrate Her Majesty ‘s contribution to horse racing and the nation, and they will continue in full tomorrow.

“The Derby is a unique race and we look forward to receiving thousands of people to help us create a spectacular carnival atmosphere.”

The Queen did not attend St Paul’s Thanksgiving service on Friday after experiencing “some discomfort” the day before, the palace said. Instead, he saw the service at his home in Windsor.

The 96-year-old first appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on Thursday as she greeted thousands of supporters before being joined by the Duke of Kent as they greeted Trooping the Color. He then appeared half an hour later with other members of the royal family for the traditional RAF Passage.

The monarch also attended the beacon lighting ceremony on Thursday night.

The Queen had a “lovely time” during Thursday’s celebrations, but found the day “very tiring”, the Duchess of Cambridge is said to have told an attendee at the Guildhall reception on Friday.

Gill Smallwood of Bolton, executive director of a charity for domestic violence, spoke with Kate after a Thanksgiving service at nearby St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Mrs Smallwood said she had asked Kate how the queen was and said Kate replied that the queen “was fine, she was very tired yesterday, and she (the queen) had had a lovely time”.

The royal family reunited with Harry and Meghan in honor of the Queen at the special Thanksgiving Jubilee service on Friday.

The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge gathered for the celebration at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, where about 40 members of the royal family were present.
