The report says that iOS 16 could offer the always-active lock screen to future iPhones

Apple is expected to showcase iOS 16 at its annual WWDC developer gathering starting Friday. New features coming to the next version of Apple’s mobile operating system include significant improvements to the iPhone’s lock screen, according to a Bloomberg report on Sunday.

iOS 16 will include an always-on lock screen mode, though this feature may be unique to the high-end iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, according to Bloomberg. The lock screen will also get new “widgets that have widget-like capabilities”.

Messaging could also get more social media-like features in iOS 16, according to Bloomberg, and the Health app can get additional features on the iPhone and Apple Watch.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In addition to iOS 16, Apple is expected to show updates to its iPadOS 16, WatchOS 9, and TVOS 16 software at WWDC. The company may also announce new hardware, with some rumors pointing to a recently revamped performance-focused Mac Pro desktop.

Apple could also launch a new MacBook Air with an M2 chip at WWDC, according to Bloomberg. However, device launch may be delayed due to supply chain limitations.
