It’s been 20 years since the hit single All The Things She Said. Now, the separate members of the Russian pop duo TATu lead very different lives.
They had one of the biggest hits of 2002, but 20 years later, the life of the Russian pop duo tATu could not be more different.
He All the things he said The singers – redhead Lena Katina and brunette Julia Volkova, both 37 – broke up in 2011 after a series of albums.
They are even better known for their simple English debut, a surprising global success in 2002, helped by the controversial image of the teenage duo.
Dressed in school costumes, the stars portrayed a fake lesbian image that they later confessed had been invented by their manager to sell records.
Twenty years later, Lena is now married to a billionaire businessman named Dmitry Spiridonov. It is their second marriage, after separating from rock star Sasho Kuzmanovich, with whom she has a seven-year-old son Alexander.
She and Spiridonov were married earlier this month on their 40th birthday, with the singer previously showing off her three-carat diamond engagement ring. The sun reports that Lena said the ring was a “museum piece” priced at “many zeros.”
The wedding comes after she recently underwent treatment for thyroid cancer, with Lena by her side all the time.
Life after tATu has been much more controversial for the other half of the duet.
Julia Volkova made headlines in 2013 when she stated that she had converted to Islam three years earlier. Despite being open about her bisexuality in numerous interviews, Volkova provoked a great deal of reaction from fans in 2014 when she made a homophobic diatribe during an appearance on a Russian talk show.
He said he would “condemn” his son if he was gay, he said, “I think a real man should be a real man.
He also stated that “two girls together, it’s not the same as two men together.”
“It seems to me that lesbians look much more aesthetically pleasing,” she said.
His comments sparked widespread condemnation, including from his former bandmate, who said: “I think everyone should be free to love those they love and be with whom they want to spend their lives.”
Volkova then backtracked and insisted that she “loved” gay tATu fans.
The last time the couple appeared together was at a 2016 concert, where they briefly set aside their differences to perform tATu’s first single. You will not catch us.
The two appeared in a 2021 Russian documentary that tracked the group’s rise and fall, but declined to be interviewed together.
