The search for a missing 5-year-old boy from Saskatchewan has ended after his remains were found on Saturday.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the discovery of Frank Young,” the head of the Cree Nation of the Red Earth, Fabian Head, wrote in a statement shared on social media.
“His remains were found in the water in the Cree Nation of the Red Earth.”
Young was reported missing in the community on April 19.
He was last seen around noon that day, playing in the front yard of his home, although he may have been seen in a local courtyard around 2:30 p.m., according to the RCMP.
No kidnapping was suspected in his disappearance.
The intensive research that followed saw hundreds of volunteers participate, helping police and other agencies.
Although extensive land research was conducted, in the weeks following its demise, the research effort focused largely on a river flowing through the community.
Head said more information will be released during a planned press conference.
“For now, we ask for your prayers and your continued support during our time of pain.”
The Saskatchewan RCMP says there is no evidence of suspicious circumstances, but more investigative measures will be taken, including an autopsy.
