The second cruise ship affected by COVID in a week docks in Sydney

Another cruise ship affected by COVID docks in Sydney this morning, the second such ship in less than a week.

A few days after the Coral Princess arrived in port, the P&O Pacific Explorer followed suit, with about 100 cases of COVID-19 on board.

The arrival of the ship in Sydney marked the end of a nine-day round trip to Queensland.

There are about 3,000 passengers and staff on board.

All passengers who have tested positive are confined to their cabins, and have even been put red tags on their doors to prevent staff from entering.

Upon arrival, passengers wishing to disembark will be required to submit a rapid negative antigen test.

Those who have already tested positive will face other arrangements.

If they live close enough, P&O will make alternative arrangements for them to be transported home.

Those living further afield, including interstate passengers, will be accommodated in hotels for the remainder of their solitary confinement period, and P&O will pay the bill.

Passengers who have been forced to stay in their cabins during the cruise will also receive a refund.

The ship’s next voyage is scheduled to be a four-night cruise on Moreton Island, with passengers to board today.

NSW Health and Carnival Australia have not revealed the proportion of positive tests among the crew and passengers.
