As part of its one-month coverage agreement with IGN, Sega has finally given us a substantial insight into the gameplay of Sonic Frontiers.
With just over 7 minutes left, the footage is our best image to date in the open world where players will find themselves when the game starts at the end of the year. We see various methods of crossing, such as grinding rails, running on walls, and springs that shoot Sonic into the air. Let’s also take a look at some of the puzzles we are likely to come across in the game.
As for the narrative, not much information was provided, but we do know that the world in which the game takes place is an island where Sonic is stranded at the beginning of the game.

All in all, it’s a beautiful look at the world of Sonic Frontiers and how we’re going to navigate it, though we can’t help but wonder what it’s all about right now. Sure, we’ll see better storytelling and characters throughout the month, but right now, the game looks like a big showcase of Sonic’s speed and movement, but that’s it. We also assume that the enemies of the game were eliminated for the purpose of the shop window, but this choice simply aggravates the feeling of emptiness within the world.
We hope to have more context in the coming weeks and months as we move towards the launch of the game.
