The suspect identified after the Ontario school threatened on social media

Durham police say they have identified a suspicious man who allegedly made online threats against students and staff at a Bowmanville high school and there are pending charges in the case.

The individual is a young man from outside the region, police said.

In statements to CP24, Const. George Tudos said that while it may not go into the specific nature of these threats, they relate to the “safety of students and staff” at Clarington Central High School. These concerns are no longer an issue, he said.

Tudos said investigators are currently examining evidence. He said they have confiscated computers and mobile phones and will execute search orders for these items.

Any charges will depend on what they find, Tudos said, adding that previous incidents of this nature have led to charges of threats, death threats and public mischief.

Durham police, who were informed of the threats Thursday evening, are working with investigators from other jurisdictions in the case.

“We take these kinds of threats very seriously,” said Tudos, who along with several other officers have attended school today.

In a statement, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board Superintendent of Education Jamila Maliha said the council is taking “all threats seriously” and is “actively working” with police today to respond to this situation. .

He said the board is grateful that it has been a “very worrying day for our students and families” and said they are grateful for the support of the local police as well as “the whole school community … for the way they went take care of each other during this process “. difficult day “.

Clarington Central High School opened classes today.

This investigation is ongoing.

The threat came on the same day that police fatally shot a man carrying an imitation firearm outside a Toronto elementary school.
