The woman of the time traveler will not advance in time.
HBO has canceled the drama series based on Audrey Niffenegger’s best-selling novel after a single season. Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, Sherlock) adapted the novel about the romance between a woman (Rose Leslie) and a man detached in time (Theo James).
“While HBO won’t be moving forward with a second season of The Time Traveler’s Wife, it was our privilege to partner with master narrators Steven Moffat and [director] David Nutter, ”HBO said in a statement.“ We are so grateful for your passion, hard work and care in adapting this beloved book. We also thank Theo and Rose, and the rest of our brilliant cast for their sincere performances, which completely captivated the audience. “
The series garnered unfavorable reviews on balance; Angie, of The Hollywood Reporter, noted that the inconsistent tone and lack of spark between the two protagonists “keep The Time Traveler’s Wife from ever rising to the level of fainting.” The live audience of the show was quite small, with only 223,000 viewers on the same day over its six weeks. (This figure does not include real-time playback and delayed viewing, where HBO series accumulate the majority of their audiences.)
Moffat wrote and Nutter directed all six episodes. They are executive producers with Sue Vertue, Brian Minchin and Joseph E. Iberti.
The Time Traveler’s Wife is one of the series that has been canceled in the last two days. He joins Duncanville of Fox, Tom Swift of The CW and Why Women Kill of Paramount + when discarded.
Deadline first reported cancellation.
