A rain band will form over Australia this week that will bring heavy, “timeless” rain to much of the country’s north coast.
A “tropical moisture injection” provided by this large band of clouds will help produce rain over a large area of eastern Australia, from Sydney to Townsville.
In some parts of the Northern Territory, Queensland and NSW could receive up to 100 mm of rain. (weather zone)
Weatherzone warned that some areas of the Northern Territory and Queensland could see “rain for several months of the dry season”, with East New South Wales also ready for a soak.
“On Tuesday and Wednesday there will be some showers over the NT and the far west QLD as a band of clouds begins to form in northern Australia,” the weather service said.
“The rain will become more intense and widespread between Thursday and Saturday as the band of clouds slowly moves further east.
“This rain event could cause flooding in parts of the NT, QLD and eastern NSW, including areas that are normally dry at this time of year.”

Rain is expected to persist over the weekend and “possibly also early next week.”
Currently, the Northern Territory is in its dry season, which runs from May to October.
Normally, the territory and interior of Queensland will receive less than 5 mm of rain during this period, but modeling shows that they can fall up to 100 mm over a seven-day period.
