Liverpool are close to signing Benwin’s Darwin Núñez, but the Uruguayan striker will not have many numbers to choose from if he arrives at Anfield.

Darwin Núñez will find little choice in the Liverpool dressing room if he arrives in what could be a record transfer for the club this summer.
The reds are locked in talks with Benfica officials to turn the striker, who turns 23 this month, his main sign in the window. The Uruguayan international is believed to have agreed to the terms of a five-year deal and will cost Liverpool an initial £ 68 million, which could go up to £ 85 million with additions, to take him to Anfield. .
A big money signing is often allowed the luxury of choosing their team number when they land in their new environment, especially considering the revenue generated from t-shirt sales. However, Núñez will find almost all the jerseys he has worn throughout his career already taken at Liverpool, should the transfer end.
Liverpool warned Jurgen Klopp could not stop after breaking Darwin Nunez transfer record Man Utd said he would focus on “humble players” after Liverpool took the lead in chasing Darwin Nunez.
He wears the number 9 shirt, which is usually worn by a Benfica center-forward, and proved why he is one of the most coveted shooters in Europe by scoring 34 goals in all competitions last season. At Liverpool, this shirt has been worn by Roberto Firmino for the past five seasons, leaving the number 11 vacant with the arrival of Mohamed Salah in 2017.
Speaking of the number 11 strip, this is usually the number that Núñez carries, as he has accumulated 11 games and two goals with the Uruguay national team. But, as mentioned, Salah occupies that number at Liverpool and it looks like there is no chance he will be available in the near future as he has confirmed he will stay for next season.
Firmino, like Salah, has a one-year contract with the Reds and is also expected to stay at Merseyside, so the chances of the No. 9 jersey being available are also slim, at best. The same goes for strip number 21 – which Núñez wore for the Spanish club Almeria before joining Benfica – as this is the number one of Kostas Tsimikas.

That leaves Núñez with two clear options for his Liverpool shirt jersey if he actually arrives at Anfield this summer. First of all, he could wear the 24, the number he put at the end of his stage with the children’s club Penarol, as it is vacant.
Alternatively, you could wait for your turn and wait for the number 10 t-shirt to be available. Sadio Mané occupies this number but the talisman of Senegal is pushing to leave this summer. Bayern Munich have failed with two offers to sign him, but if he left, the coveted number 10 would be a suitable shirt for a player with the price and potential of Núñez.
