The Union attacks Qantas for millions of head bonds

Unions have criticized Qantas for offering company executives millions of bonuses after cancellations and lost luggage.

In May, the departures and arrivals of the airlines were fulfilled only 60% of the time, while more than 7% of the flights were canceled.

But now the company’s executives have promised big bonuses, says the airline workers ’union.

The National Secretary of the Transportation Workers Union, Michael Kaine, said the money “rubs salt into the deep wounds inflicted on illegally fired workers.”

“School holidays and the Easter holidays have been absolutely ruined by Qantas’ decision to illegally lay off 2,000 workers, ”he said.

“The man who made that decision just received a $ 1.1 million Alan Joyce bonus in shares.”

In an announcement on the ASX last month, the company said four executives would receive shares worth more than $ 4 million.

Allowances must be paid in August 2023 under the terms of the retention and recovery plan.

“The time has come for Alan Joyce to leave and his direction to leave,” Kaine said.

Executive bonuses came to a halt in the last two years as the airline struggled to stay afloat, receiving $ 2 billion in taxpayer support during the pandemic.

On 30 November 2020, Qantas took the decision at 10 Australian airports to outsource ground assistance operations that had been carried out by its own employees.

The shutdown of flights due to the COVID-19 pandemic further complicated the situation.

The court unanimously upheld the airline’s decision to breach the Labor Act just when it eliminated employees during the pandemic, in favor of cheaper outsourced staff.

In a statement, Qantas said; “We want everyone who contributes to our recovery to participate in success when the time comes.”

Earlier, Qantas has accused an increase in COVID-19 cases among crew members of the recent delays and cancellations.
