Harvey Davies enjoyed an “incredibly proud moment” when he made his first outing for Liverpool’s senior club on Friday and has vowed not to “slow down”.
With Alisson down and Caoimhin Kelleher not traveling due to injury, Jurgen Klopp gave Adrian a starting spot for the second pre-season friendly of the summer.
But with the wholesale changes at halftime, it was 18-year-old Davies who the coach turned to as part of a new image team that includes Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander -Arnold and Thiago.
The teenager played just over half an hour before nine more changes were made, giving way to his academy teammate Fabian Mrozek.
It was a quiet but impressive display by Davies, who drew attention with his cast, and speaking to LFCTV after the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, it was clear that the opportunity left its mark. .
“Obviously, it’s very special for me. The first game played now, the debut has been made,” he said.
“Obviously, it is also a pleasure to be here in Singapore in front of all these fans.
“It’s a very proud time for me and my family, I know everyone is looking at home. It’s a shame they couldn’t be here, but I know they will be absolutely, very proud of me.
“So I’m also very happy with myself.
“It’s up there, definitely at the top. It’s an incredibly proud time and I’ll never forget it.”
Davies has been a regular in first team training for over a year, and in the face of the new campaign he will occupy the fourth goalkeeper option after the transfer of Marcelo Pitaluga to Macclesfield.
Time training with Alisson, Kelleher and Adrian, under the direction of John Achterberg, Jack Robinson and Claudio Taffarel, will serve you well.
But more, perhaps, will be these experiences in the field itself.
“We work on all the things we face in the game: crossing, distribution, stopping shots,” he continued.
“I had a little to do tonight and I’m happy with how I played. I think the team did well too. “
The youngster will not be deluded, but with Kelleher and Alisson currently on the sidelines, there is a good chance he will have more minutes in the coming pre-season weeks.
“[The aim is] to keep taking the next steps, I took a step tonight, and it practically keeps going up and trying not to slow down, ”Davies added.
“[I want to] keep making as much progress as I can. “
