Five Toronto District School Board high school graduates are among the first to post a 100% average in their senior year.
Humberside Collegiate Institute’s Nina Do, Harbord Collegiate Institute’s Pasha Ho, Victoria Park Collegiate Institute’s Avaneesh Kulkarni, Etobicoke School of the Arts’ Sienna Muller and Richview Collegiate Institute’s Kyle Sung earned impressive grades in their top six Grade 12 classes degree during the 2021-22 academic year.
A very humble Muller and Sung stopped by CP24 Thursday morning to talk about their academic success and future plans.
Sung, who can remarkably solve a Rubik’s Cube in just 10 seconds, rounded out her senior year with an array of extracurricular activities, including figure skating at the national level, playing multiple instruments, and writing and performing original music.
βI love learning… whether it’s learning to write songs or learning to skate. It feels great,β Sung said.
Meanwhile, Muller is a classical ballet dancer who divides her time between the stage and textbooks. She says she plans to pursue a career in science, but she still managed to squeeze in a little dance every day during her senior year.
βIn the end though I honestly probably love them both [arts and sciences] likewise, I’ve decided to go into science because I think I can have a real impact there,” Muller said.
As for how they achieved the 100% averages, both Muller and Sung agreed that the support they received from their parents, classmates and teachers was paramount to their success.
“I definitely had a lot of help from my teachers. I think it’s important to never be afraid to ask for help and get extra help because there are so many amazing teachers that if you say ‘can you go over this math problem with me,’ ‘I need help with this concept of science, ‘they will be there,’β said Muller.
Four of the top five academics met Thursday morning at TDSB headquarters where they expanded on their academic achievements and talked about learning during a pandemic and their plans for the coming year.
