Thousands of Calgarians were left without electricity on Tuesday afternoon as rain continued to drag down the city under warnings of rain and wind.
According to Enmax, the communities in the northeast, northwest and southwest quadrants of the city were affected in the early afternoon.
In a statement, the company said approximately 4,850 customers were without electricity at 3:30 p.m.
“Enmax Power has incorporated additional crews to continue working to restore energy safely and quickly,” an Enmax spokesman said in an email. “The number of customers affected is constantly changing as our teams work to restore energy safely.”

Enmax was able to restore power to some of the customers, working all afternoon to restore power.
Some of the disruptions were reported as “contact with trees” and the Calgary City Department of Transportation warned drivers that some power outages were affecting street lights. Flashing red lights should be treated as four-way stops.
Enmax warns Calgar residents to stay back at least 10 meters if they see a power line down and report the outage on their website or by calling 403-514-6100. If the line is sparks or on the ground, call 911. If the power line is touching a tree, the company warns you not to remove branches or trees from the cables, as electricity can travel through any object that touches the cable. .
