A local man has been arrested and charged after an early-morning altercation in the far north of Kingston, where he caused riots and threatened to punch a store clerk.

The incident occurred at a gas station in the area of Division Street and Benson Avenue at approximately 12:40 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2022, when the suspect entered the gas station store. A store clerk who observed that the suspect was acting erratically told police that the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
The man approached the victim, the store clerk, and began shouting. As the store employee feared for his safety, the suspect made a motion to punch the employee in the face, according to a press release from Kingston Police on Tuesday, May 7. June 2022. Then the suspect left the store, still screaming. and shouting, and contacted the police.
“Upon arrival of the police, the accused was located still wandering outside the store. The defendant, observing the police, tried to flee the scene. The police chased the accused on foot and went tried to make an arrest, but the accused was combative with the officer and tried to kick him several times, “Kingston police said.
“While on the ground, the accused continued to act erratically and aggressively and did not listen to police requests to stop resisting arrest.”
According to police, the accused was handcuffed and arrested after a “brief fight” with officers. He continued to call police as they placed him in the back of a cruise ship, police said.
The 34-year-old Kingston man was charged with assault, threatening bodily harm, resisting arrest and causing riots.
