Three passengers were attacked by a man with a “cutting weapon” at San Francisco International Airport on Friday evening, authorities said.
San Francisco police said a man drove a vehicle to the airport, entered the international terminal, “walked through the exit terminal and pulled out a cutting weapon” before attacking three men in front of at 6 p.m., San Francisco police said.
The passengers were in the pre-security area of the international terminal when they were attacked, said airport manager Russell Mackey.
Airport spokesman Doug Yakel said the suspect “tried to injure several passing passengers.” Police said officers responded to the scene and arrested the suspect “without further incident.”
The three victims were treated medically at the scene and were released with life-threatening injuries, police said.
“They were treated for minor scratches and released,” Mackey said, adding that they continued their travels.
The suspect was arrested. The man’s name, age and city of residence, as well as his “pending charges,” were not disclosed amid ongoing investigation, police said.
Mackey said information about the type of weapon used was not immediately available.
It was unclear if the suspect was a traveler, Mackey said. The reason was unknown, Mackey said.
Yakel said the attack did not affect airport operations.
