Three people are in hospital in serious condition after each was stabbed several times during what police called a volatile situation on Friday inside a North Saanich home.
The Sydney-North Saanich RCMP was alerted by a 911 call saying several people were injured by a person who was still inside the residence on the 10000 block of Derrick Road in North Saanich.
Police forcibly entered the house and discovered three people who had been stabbed several times, the RCMP said on Saturday.
The man believed to be responsible was at the scene and was detained without incident, police said. “The agents who responded relied on their training and scaling skills to stop this very agitated and violent person.
“I am grateful that all lifeguards have acted professionally to put an end to this volatile situation,” Cpl said. Andrés Sánchez, spokesman for the Sydney-North Saanich RCMP.
The RCMP provided first aid to the victims until it was determined that the scene was safe enough for BC Ambulance paramedics to enter.
The injuries of the three victims were serious enough to be taken to hospital. Their wounds are expected to survive.
All three were in serious but stable condition Saturday afternoon, police said.
There is no danger to the public and, at this stage of the investigation, it is believed that the detained man is known to the victims and that this is an isolated incident, police said.
The man who was arrested at the scene remains in police custody.
Derrick Road is located in the Deep Cove area of North Saanich. The 10000 block consists of larger half-acre single-family properties to the west and a five-acre property with a house on the east side of the road. The area is largely wooded and properties are valued at over $ 1 million.
