AFTERNOON UPDATE: Storms have already begun to develop, with a pattern of storms moving primarily to the east that have a slight southerly tilt.
Calgary is in a tricky spot between the storm line; right now the projection is pretty much 50:50 as to whether or not these storms cross our outer city limits (both south and north). Calgary’s most likely storm period is from 4:30 to 6:00 this evening as energy builds.
As for the forecast, we are still looking at the storm potential tomorrow. In fact, more than one forecast model paints a similar picture to what we’re likely experiencing today, making it another severe weather warning day.
Beyond that, no changes, really. Monday offers a slight chance of precipitation, but the bulk of our next wave of rain is still slated for Tuesday, and after that, we enter something of a heat dome.
MORNING EDIT: Scattered thunderstorms are possible across southern Alberta today. These are the type of storms that will intensify as they continue across the prairies, providing only moderately unsettled conditions in Calgary. That doesn’t mean Calgarians won’t have to adjust plans.
Wind and hail are still the benchmarks we have to take into account.
The westerly wind passage across the Rockies reopens to storm potential Saturday, but it’s also remote at this point. Due to the established stable limit, expect another day of “maybe weather”, similar to Wednesday and Thursday.
Sunday stays warm, but it’s in between before we see that incoming ridge of high pressure move down towards us, opening us up to northwesterly winds and cooler conditions. Most of the incoming rain has extended into Tuesday.
