The creator of Undertale and Deltarune, Toby Fox, has often shown off his vast amount of skills during his time in the industry, from writing to game design and even composing music! And it is the latter that has caught the special attention of Game Freak and The Pokémon Company.

Toby Fox confirmed today on Twitter that he is responsible for some of the music we heard in today’s trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet! That is, Toby Fox has composed the game’s “field music,” which he says Game Freak has reordered several times throughout the game. It seems to be one of the great leitmotifs of Scarlet and Violet, then!

But this is not all; Toby Fox has also confirmed that he is contributing more than one track to the game, with a small blatant reference to his contribution to the Sword and Shield soundtrack.

There will also be some more Toby Fox songs in the game, so look forward to them! This time, my music is not optional !!! – tobyfox (@tobyfox) June 1, 2022

For those who don’t remember, this isn’t the first time Toby Fox has worked with Game Freak. Previously, he was the lead songwriter for the RPG Little Town Hero. But he also composed a single track for the 8th generation Pokémon games, namely the Battle Tower theme, which many players might not have heard if they hadn’t followed this challenge during the post-game!

Here is an excerpt from the absolute bop that Toby Fox composed for Sword and Shield:

At least in Scarlet and Violet, Toby Fox’s music will be an integral part of the main game. And it sounds good to us from what we can see in the trailer! Give her another watch and let us know if you can spot any Toby Fox style in the music.

How much more Generation 9 music can we get today? We already know what the new legends will look like, your new teachers, a handful of new worlds, and some potential past and future topics. Ugh! This is just scratching the surface.

Are you excited to hear Toby Fox’s work on Scarlet and Violet? Let us know in the comments!
