Tom Hanks admitted he was confused by Disney’s decision to replace Tim Allen with Chris Evans in the new “Lightyear” movie about Allen’s “Toy Story” fictional character, Buzz Lightyear.
The 65-year-old actor was asked if it was “weird to be in theaters in front of a Buzz Lightyear movie” while his movie “Elvis” went through theaters at the same time.
“What about that? In fact, I wanted to go face to face with Tim Allen, and then they wouldn’t let Tim Allen do it,” he told CinemaBlend. “I don’t understand that.”
When asked more about the studio’s decision to take Evans instead of Allen, Hanks added, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.

“Here’s the thing: as long as people go back to the movies. I want to go back to the theater with a lot of strangers and walk away with something in common. That’s what I want to do and, go see a movie with him. [Allen] “I feel like it.”
“Lightyear,” just finished its third weekend at the box office and has grossed nearly $ 107 million.
Allen, 60, talked about the confusing review with Extra last week and said the new Buzz Lightyear character was completely different from his original interpretation.
“This is a completely new team that really had nothing to do with the first few films,” he said.
Allen had given voice to the character of the astronaut doll since 1995 and reprized the role “Toy Story 2”, “Toy Story 3” and “Toy Story 4” in addition to many other projects.
‘Toy Story 4’ contributed more than $ 1 billion to the box office in 2019 with a budget of $ 200 million. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen attend the world premiere of Disney and Pixar’s TOY STORY 4 at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, CA on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. (Alberto E. Rodríguez)
TIM ALLEN REACTS ‘LIGHTYEAR’ STAR OF CHRIS EVANS: ‘NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FIRST MOVIES’
The “Home Improvement” star was surprised to learn that the new Disney movie was not a live-action movie starring “real humans,” as they called it.
“The short answer is that I was left out of that … I thought it was a live action. When they said they were doing it, that’s what I thought I meant real humans and not something animated. “.
Allen saw no connection to the original tale as “there’s really no ‘Toy Story’ Buzz without Woody. It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy.”
He added: “So I’m not sure what the idea is [is]… I am a type of plot. If this was done in 1997, it would seem like a great adventure story and, as I see it, it’s not a great adventure story. It’s a wonderful story. It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy.

PATRICIA HEATON EXPLORES DISNEY FOR NOT HAVING TIM ALLEN IN SPINOFF ‘LIGHTYEAR’: ‘PIXING MADE A BIG MISTAKE’
Director Angus MacLane explained the character’s differences at Vanity Fair last month and noted that Allen’s version of Buzz in the ’90s was “a little more silly” than the new adaptation.
“In this movie, Buzz is the action hero. He’s serious, ambitious and funny, but not in a silly way that would undermine the drama.”
He added: “Chris Evans has the seriousness and quality of a movie star that our character needed to separate him and the film from Tim’s version of the toy in ‘Toy Story.'”
“Toy Story 3” was one of the most anticipated sequels of 2010. The computer-animated film, which also stars Tom Hanks, Whoopi Goldberg and Michael Keaton, grossed $ 1 billion worldwide at the box office.
“Toy Story 4” also contributed more than $ 1 billion to the box office in 2019 with a budget of $ 200 million.
Evans said he was “humbled” to play the more important role than life after studying movies for years.
“Look, Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear,” Evans told Good Morning America last month. “What he did in these films is so iconic and so beloved, and it would be silly not to incorporate some of his choices into that role.

“The character in this movie is the human version on which the toy is based, so it makes sense that there’s a bit of overlap, luckily for me. What Tim Allen did is pretty untouchable.”
The controversy surrounding the film began months ago when a same-sex kiss was reportedly removed from the film and then re-added after the reaction of the lack of response from Disney in Florida. Bill “Don’t say gay.”.
The bill (entitled “Parents’ Rights to Education” or Florida House Bill 1557) prohibits instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity for children in kindergarten through third grade.
The on-screen kiss takes place between Hawthorne, a female protagonist with the voice of Uzo Aduba, and another female character.
Evans responded to critics who say the film’s kissing scene between two female characters drives a pro-gay agenda.
“The real truth is that these people are idiots,” Evans said in an interview with Reuters Television. “There will always be people who are scared and unconscious and will try to cling to what they were before. But these people die like dinosaurs. I think the goal is to ignore them, move forward and embrace the growth that makes us human. “.
“Every time there’s been a social breakthrough as we wake up, American history, human history is one of constant awakening and social growth, and that’s what makes us good.” Evans added.
