The long-awaited “Top Gun: Maverick” sequel directed by Tom Cruise grossed $ 19.3 million in previews on Thursday afternoon / evening.
This is the highest-grossing preview in the history of Paramount Pictures and the highest-grossing Memorial Day preview in history. It also blows up $ 6 million previews of “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” directed by cruise ships in 2018.
Industry projections earlier this week suggested that the film is on its way to an opening of more than $ 100 million over the next four days, making it the best opening of any of week for Cruise.
Helping that is the fact that the film is riding an amazing buzzing wave with 97% reviews and a 99% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Also released is “The Bob’s Burgers Movie,” which grossed $ 1.5 million in previews and is expected to release between $ 10 and $ 14 million over four days.
