Tornado clock issued for Ottawa, parts of eastern Ontario

Tornado warnings have been issued in parts of eastern Ontario with possible severe storms Thursday afternoon and early evening.

Environment Canada issued the clock around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

“Conditions are favorable for the development of severe storms that can produce tornadoes,” the weather agency said.

“Strong winds, heavy hail and heavy rain are also possible.”

In mid-Thursday afternoon, a severe storm warning had also been issued for several areas of eastern Ontario.

Environment Canada said tornadoes are possible, along with gusts of 90 to 110 km / h and hail the size of a ping pong ball.

“Storms are expected to develop in the early hours of this afternoon with the potential to intensify rapidly as they move eastward,” the warning says.

“A tornado or two will be possible this afternoon before the threat passes mainly in the wind. This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation.”
