Some Toronto residents are being asked to keep expired parking permits placed on their windshields, as the city is dealing with “supply chain issues” that have affected its ability to ship new stickers.
Various images have been circulating on social media showing how long it will take for some drivers to avoid a parking fine amid delays, including posting the permit receipt next to the expired sticker.
In a statement issued to CTV News Toronto on Tuesday, the city acknowledged that “the processing and printing of permits was affected by supply chain problems,” but said that the problem had been resolved and that drivers should have to get your new permissions soon.
“The city has cleared the delay in applying for permits and the latest batch has been emailed today,” the statement said. “The police parking control unit will offer a grace period as residents move from one permit sticker to another. Residents with an expired permit attached to the windshield will not receive any tickets.”
The city says delays found by the external vendor it uses for its on-street parking permit stickers affected about 15,000 drivers.
He says the last batch of about 1,200 pending stickers has been shipped today.
The city has said that anyone with a sticker that expired on May 31 who receives a ticket can contact permits.parking@toronto.ca with ticket information.
Residential street parking permits are usually renewed every six to 12 months.
