Toronto teacher on a homework assignment after recording students in the chair

A Toronto teacher has been assigned home pending an investigation into an alleged incident in which two students were recorded in a chair in class.

In a statement to CTV News Toronto, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) said the incidents took place in May. According to media reports, the children were students at Seventh Street Junior School in Etobicoke and were glued to their chairs. The school board has not given further details about the allegations.

A TDSB spokesman said the school took immediate action when it learned of the complaints by notifying the services department of the board’s employees, the Child Aid Society and the Toronto police.

The teacher and a child educator have been assigned home pending the outcome of an investigation, the board said.

“In the meantime, we have offered social work support for students in the affected class,” Ryan Bird said. “These allegations are very serious and, if true, would be completely unacceptable and could have serious consequences up to and including dismissal.”

Toronto police have told CTV News Toronto that the incident is not a criminal matter.
