Toronto under heat warning before two days of sweltering temperatures

The Greater Toronto Area, as well as much of southern and northern Ontario, are under a heat warning ahead of what Environment Canada says will be two days of extreme temperatures.

According to the warning, temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will be between 30 degrees and 30 degrees, without much relief during the night.

In Toronto, temperatures are expected to rise to about 29 ºC on Tuesday, with a sensation of 34 ºC with humidex. Environment Canada also warns that the UV index will be around 10, or “very high.”

On Wednesday, the temperature will be similar, with a high of 33 ºC and a 40 percent chance of showers.

Environment Canada says “cooler air is expected to arrive on Thursday.”

“Hot and humid air can also cause a deterioration in air quality and can cause the air quality health index to approach the high-risk category,” says the warning.

“The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people who work or exercise outdoors.”

They warn that residents should not leave small children or pets in cars and that outdoor workers should take regular breaks in cool places.
