An 11-year-old girl is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in a lane of a Frankston mall on Thursday morning and police have charged two children, aged 12 and 14, with the incident.
Police say a trio of youths approached the girl in Gallery Lane, near Bayside Center, around 12:15 p.m., before asking her to smooth out her cell phone and personal belongings and then ‘stabbed several times with a sharp object.

Paramedics took the Port Melbourne girl to Frankston Hospital in stable condition with injuries to her upper body. She was transferred to the Royal Children’s Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
Traffic police officers responded to the incident and arrested the children.
Police have since charged a 14-year-old Frankston boy and a 12-year-old Highett girl with armed robbery and assault.
They were summoned to appear in a juvenile court at a later date.
Police say they are aware that there are images of the incident.
An 11-year-old Carlton girl was released pending summons.
