UPDATE 13:50 h
Police have confirmed that two people have died at a Peachland home, in what is apparently a murder-suicide.
The RCMP received a report at 4.30pm on Monday stating that a woman had received a call from her friend saying that a homicide had taken place and that they were considering self-harm.
Officers determined the call was related to a house in Peachland, at 6033 Garraway Place. Police swarmed the house and established a containment perimeter, but were unable to contact those inside.
Tactical officers entered the house around 6:20 p.m., and found a dead person with what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds with a gun nearby. A second individual was also found dead in the home.
“It is believed that the two people knew each other and that there is no permanent threat to the public,” RCMP spokeswoman Dawn Roberts said.
The RCMP says it will work with the BC Coroners Service to identify the dead and the exact cause of death.
The Office of Independent Investigations has also been convened to determine whether police actions contributed to the deaths. The IIO investigates all incidents of death or serious injury involving police, regardless of whether there are any allegations of crime.
