Two drivers who crashed into QEW died after their vehicles were hit from behind by a third motorist: OPP

Two people have been killed and two others injured in an overnight crash on Queen Elizabeth Way in Mississauga.

The collision occurred on Thursday, June 16 at around 10:30 p.m. in the east lanes of the freeway just before Cawthra Road.

According to the OPP, the drivers of two vehicles were initially involved in a collision.

A third driver then collided with the parked vehicles, they said, and killed the two drivers and injured two more.

Peel paramedics confirmed that two people died at the scene.

They also said one patient was rushed to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, while another was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

OPP SGT. Kerry Schmidt said the victims are a man and a woman.

He said reports indicate the two drivers involved in the initial collision were out of their vehicle when a third-party driver struck the two vehicles from behind.

Schmidt said the driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Queen Elizabeth Way was closed for several hours in both directions between Dixie and Cawthra while police investigated. The highway reopened to traffic around 5 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
