Two EF-1 tornadoes hit London during a weekend storm

Saturday’s powerful storm left a lasting impact on Ontario as the city’s teams continue to deal with the damage it left behind.

On Friday, Western University’s Northern Tornado project reported that two EF-1 tornadoes landed in London last weekend.

Environment Canada confirmed the group’s findings.

“The roads of the damage are long and narrow, a few hundred meters wide and miles long, and these are almost the telltale signs of a tornado,” said Dr. David Sills, the group’s chief executive.

Sills helped investigate Saturday’s weather system, which he said showed two locations in the city that were most affected.

“The tornado started right here in this Green Valley industrial building, knocking down an electric pole … with a lot of debris in the air,” he said.

The Huron Heights area was also the target of one of the tornadoes in London.

“There was an apartment building that lost its roof and threw a bunch of trees in the Huron Heights area, some very big and healthy ones that actually ended up at the airport that they took out some doors from he hung up and turned a plane around. “

Saturday’s bad weather left 10 dead and caused severe damage to trees and buildings across the province.

“This is definitely one of the biggest storms I’ve ever seen,” said Scott Stafford of the city’s parks and forestry department. “The amount of trees uprooted from the ground is substantial for other storms.”

Teams from the City of London have been working all day to remove trees and debris that block roads and access to parks.

Stafford said the damage goes beyond forestry as teams work to repair damage to roads, sidewalks and replanting trees.

Depending on the city, it could take several weeks or even months to repair all the damage from the storm.
