Two hospitalized after a double shooting in Campbell River

UPDATE: Campbell River RCMP says a man has died and a woman was taken to hospital after a shooting in Campbell River on Tuesday afternoon.

The RCMP says officers responded to the Upland Drive and Robron Road area to a report of a shooting.

Police say the man’s death was due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“There is no permanent threat to public safety,” the Campbell River RCMP Cst said. Maury Tire. “Our agents will continue the investigation overnight and will provide more information to the public when it is prudent to do so.”

A British Columbia Emergency Medical Services spokesman confirmed for the first time the double shooting at CHEK News, saying paramedics were called at 3:37 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Campbell River RCMP says it has sent victim services to help families and is asking people to avoid discussing or posting photos about the incident on social media channels to allow families to mourn in private.
