BRONX, New York (WABC) – There was massive hysteria at two New York City malls on Saturday afternoon.
Someone lit firecrackers in the dining area of the Mall at Bay Plaza in the Bronx at about 1:30 p.m. Then, less than an hour later, the same thing happened at Kings Plaza in Brooklyn.
Kings Plaza Mall was evacuated around 2:15 p.m. after the fireworks exploded.
A witness who was at the Primark says he heard three blows and said they sounded like shots. He says he grabbed his two children and ran down the stairs.
“I was buying my kids and I heard gunshots. I ran down the stairs, running downstairs. It was very scary,” said the witness who did not want to be identified.
Since then, the mall has reopened and shoppers were able to re-enter a specific entrance.
There were no arrests.
There are no reports of injuries in either incident.
Last weekend, there was panic inside the Barclays Center when fans watching a boxing match ran to cover themselves for fear of an active shooter. In this case, police say an excited fan kicked or threw a trash can, causing what appeared to be shots.
With the recent mass shootings in Buffalo, Texas, Tulsa and California, many people are on the sidelines
