Two wins in a week for Albanese: first the election, then the Bunnies

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was seen supporting his beloved Rabbitohs at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday in the first match he has attended since last week’s election.

Albanese arrived just minutes after the Wests Tigers started the game and sat down at the back of the Accor Stadium member lounge with his partner Jodie Haydon.

Both Albanese and Haydon wore Rabbitoh handkerchiefs and sat next to former South Sydney captain Mario Fenech.

The lifelong fan was able to cheer on the Souths for an exciting comeback in the second half that saw them beat the Tigers 44-18.

Albanese’s relationship with the club emerged as an asset during the campaign. It helped make sure another Hollywood fan and star Russell Crowe was a celebrity voiceover for a sleek campaign ad.

It was a sporting day for the new prime minister. Earlier on Saturday, he was seen playing tennis in Marrickville, which he said he wants to continue doing during his prime.

“[I’m] We are pleased to report that Marrickville won six sets to two, giving us eight points on the competition table. It’s a little fun, “he said.

“I hope to keep playing. Obviously my schedule is tough, but I want it to be real. I want to keep in touch with real people. In Marrickville I’m just Albo at the tennis club.”
