Okanagan University of British Columbia wants to talk about the impacts of social and economic change on our community.
UBCO hosts the first Social and Economic Change Laboratory at the Kelowna Innovation Center from 16 to 22 July.
The idea is to bring together students, artists, audiences, staff and faculty with the goal of exploring social and economic change, through exhibitions, performances and conversations over the course of a week.
The SE-Change lab begins on Saturday with a mobile performance in downtown Kelowna from 3pm to 5pm. Activities continue throughout the week with exhibitions, performances, installations, documentaries and open debates, including rooftop receptions.
“We work with communities and the public, locally and globally, to share and co-create knowledge about the challenges that matter to them. Through exhibitions, performances and conversations, the SE-Change Festival explores social and economic change in real places: how it is seen, its effects and how it is configured. The Festival brings together academics, artists and audiences, local and from different parts of the world, in a forum where they can interact, express themselves and ask questions, ”says a UBCO statement.
The activities of the SE-Change Festival are free and open to everyone.
The festival officially opens on Monday with a roof-opening ceremony in the atrium and rooftop of the Innovation Center between 4:45 and 6:30 p.m.
