BETTING PREVIEW SCULPTURE REPORT | TESTS: Ducote (-150), Penne (+130)

Round 1

In what appears to be a solid paper wrestling card, the UFC will show off its plumage on ABC in what will be a morning show for most of the United States. An early start time means an early end, so wrestling and media fans can enjoy a Saturday night without a UFC show until all hours of the morning. This show of a dozen fights begins in the lightest division of the squad, between two former Invicta FC champions. Former 105-pound queen Penne (14-5, 3-3 UFC), who is making her seventh UFC appearance since joining the league more than seven years ago, takes on the debutant and recently vacant 115-pound champion Ducote (11- 6, 0-0 UFC). This potential inaugurator of the “torch pass” card will be officiated by referee Jacob Montalvo, and the women don’t bother with the touch of gloves to start the day. Ducote seeks to establish his rank soon, with several strokes of range. La Penne responds in the same way that they are facing each other in the center of the cage, with no woman giving up much ground as they seek to fix things. One aims with a blow to land, the other responds with another blow just like him, and this exchange of blows for blow continues. Ducote chains a low kick to his left hand, and Penne’s eyes open a little more after absorbing the blow. The newcomer cuts his leg and points another left hook through the bow, and Penne already looks a little marked after a few punches. Ducote comes abruptly to his opponent with blows, and cuts Penne with a right over, and Penne has had enough and throws himself forward to tie. “Gordinha” puts her aside and continues to work on Penne’s lead calf, which turns red quickly. La Penne intervenes to prepare a clinch and joins three knees to the body before breaking an elbow through the bow. Ducote pulls him away and keeps his active assault of kicks in the legs continuing, and Penne seeks to break it by causing Ducote to face a fight. This doesn’t work in his favor, as Ducote’s hands are a little faster, catching Penne with a couple of hooks inside. Penne escapes with a hard kick to the chest, and Ducote passes by her to hit Penne in the face with his left hand. Ducote scores a right on the body and a left on the head, and Penne rushes forward only to be pushed to one side. Ducote’s kicks to the outside continue to damage Penne’s wheel, as it is already reddened and steep. Penne counterattacks from above, and Ducote stands firm and punches it with his right hand. The round ends when the two women shake hands.

Round 2

The second round begins with several quick exchanges between the two, and Penne begins quickly, but is overwhelmed by power as they exchange blows. Ducote keeps kicking his opponent’s main leg, and Penne’s poker face fades as he absorbs those unanswered calf kicks. Ducote follows a kick with his right hand on his jaw, and splits the guard with a left hook as he slips a fist. They both charge power blows, and Ducote’s bow is cleaner as he lands on the ground while Penne’s touches his chin. Ducote gets hit twice in the jaw and they are shaken so he can pay Penne, and that leads Penne to a shot. When this is unsuccessful, Penne tries to hold on with her hand and Ducote doesn’t get hooked and bites her knees like before. When they separate, Penne pulls out her blow, giving Ducote something to think about, and also controls a kick in the leg. Ducote reaches him with his right hand, and Penne grabs him and lifts a knee. La Penne holds her jab as Ducote walks her down, and has the positive effect of keeping the newcomer at bay. Penne kicks her body when Ducote looks to kick her, and a left hand bursts her nose. Another attempt to eliminate Penne fails, and Ducote makes her think twice with two loop hooks landing on either side of Penne’s dome. Penne’s blows cause blood to flow down Ducote’s nose, and Ducote approaches and enters to attack. He throws Penne with four clean blows, throwing Penne to the wall and causing Penne to lift his knee to keep his enemy behind. Ducote still hits him with a few more, and the horn sounds.

Round 3

While Penne seeks to start the final round with effective ranged fighting, using his jab as his most effective weapon, he can’t stop Ducote’s leg kicks. The newcomer’s calf kicks have provoked visible reactions from Penne, and Penne can no longer hide the pain or maintain his full balance. This causes Ducote to lose a few more, and Penne lifts her leg and holds it because she can’t stand her weight. Ducote measures a right hand pounding Penne, and Penne’s other knee trembles from the damage. Penne throws kicks from that injured leg so it isn’t a kick target, and Ducote continues to aim at the swollen belly. Ducote puts on two more, and she slides to the right. La Penne sits with all her might to counter with a right hook, and doesn’t have enough drive to get Ducote’s respect. “Chubby” moves forward and holds Penne back, and mixes punches into the body so Penne doesn’t just focus on that particular blow. La Penne bites her mouth and throws hard, and her right hands curl. Ducote walks all the way Penne wants her to, and calmly pokes her leg inside and out. Penne does so forcefully and her right eye begins to swell from the left hands that are crushing her cheek. Ducote is firmly in her groove, and Penne bravely tries to make her pay for any blow she falls. Ducote loads with a right hand that lands flat, and Penne is right there to back off with a reckless abandon. Ducote plants another on her chin, and she chains the left hook on a low kick that pulls out a clear lame Penne. Penne’s exposed heart cannot be questioned, and he reaches the final bell despite suffering significant damage to his main leg.
