June 2 (Reuters) – Ukrainian forces have had some success fighting the Russians in the city of Sievierodonetsk, but the general military situation in the Donbas region has not changed on the day, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Thursday.
In a video address last night, Zelenskiy also thanked U.S. President Joe Biden for promising to send missiles and said he expected good news about the supply of weapons from other partners.
Russian forces, backed by heavy artillery, control most of the eastern industrial city of Sievierodonetsk, but fighting continues, Ukrainian officials say.

“The situation in the Donbas has not changed significantly in the last 24 hours. We have had some success in the battles of Sievierodonetsk,” Zelenskiy said, adding that it was too early to give details.
He also criticized what he called the “absolutely senseless bombing” of the northern border regions from Russian territory.
“The entire temporarily occupied territory of our state is now a zone of total disaster, for which Russia is entirely responsible,” he said.
