After months of campaigning Team Fortress 2 Fans, Valve is finally taking action against bot issues. Anyways.
On Thursday, an update for Team Fortress 2 came out. It addresses numerous exploits, including deleting text chats, enabling tricks on official servers, teleporting through class changes, a strange dispenser cure error, and more. Some of these solutions only acknowledge mistakes of a decade, but it is a start.
For months, the Team Fortress 2 The community has been calling for Valve to address the traps and spam caused by the robots. The “SaveTF2” campaign received a response from Valve recently, and this patch adds some means to combat bot nonsense. In particular, the two more casting options should help players launch robots. Eliminating mid-game name changes should help, as robots often automatically rename real players within games. See the full patch notes below.
None of this mentions robots specifically, but Valve will probably add backend solutions as well. Highlighting solutions in official patch notes could inadvertently allow people who are cheating to find alternative solutions. It’s not that security through the dark always works, but it’s worth keeping in mind.
Regardless, we hope this is just one of Valve’s many Team Fortress 2 updates.
