V Rising, as Steam reviews say

One of the most popular Steam games right now is V Rising, a Stunlock Studios survival and vampire action role-playing game. The game is shattering the charts, with about 95,000 people playing at any given time according to Steam Charts. Most revealing, however, is the reception of V Rising on Valve’s PC gaming platform, which is currently “very positive.” That’s true, but in these reviews there are some well-deserved praise, fair criticism, and silly comments worth highlighting.

V Rising, released in Early Access on May 17, is a Diablo-style loot role-playing game that is an amalgam of other games. There are base building mechanics similar to State of Decay. You have survival stuff where you are looking for resources in an open world like the Midgard tribes. It was even shipped with PvE and PvP. But what makes V Rising stand out among the multitude of similar APRGs is its vampiric setting that reflects the established tradition. Like, you will burn if you go out in the sun, but walking in the shade allows you to move freely even during the day. Things like this are great, and the combination of design elements seems to be another selling point.

As the Steam Conker user pointed out, the game has a “good balance” of mechanics, making V Rising relatively easy to understand. User GinaTonik echoed this sentiment, calling it a game that can “attract a wide range of players” because of the way it mixes various elements of the game. Another user named Lagrie thought the same thing and said that V Rising is having fun solo offline [content] i [is] a marvel to play with friends [online]. ” Hell, people seem to be so addicted to gambling that they haven’t left home in days! Please don’t do this.

But my favorite V Rising reviews have nothing to do with the game. Players release “It’s Morbin ‘Time” in reference to the hilarious Morbius memes that recently stormed the Internet thanks to the movie’s 24/7 Twitch streams. And of course, these are popular reviews, probably because now there’s a main game where you can die as a vampire. What did I tell you? Morb will sink. The meme can’t die.

This is not to say that everyone enjoys V Rising. Some people entered the game, claiming that they have suffered crashes that have permanently blocked the relaunch or other server issues that made it unplayable. Most, however, say that it is not a problem of play but of progression. Steam user m-dep, for example, said that “75% of the time” is spent caring for resources, while alan0n complained that the progression is “limited by your personal search.”

V Rising is a massive hit for Stunlock. I mean, it sold over a million copies two weeks after it dropped. People are thirsty for more vampire content or we’ve all been infected with the Morbius gene. Regardless, it looks like the vampire is ready to make a glorious and eternal return.
