V Rising Mods are already fixing the game’s camera, thank God

V Rising mods are already coming in to help fix the game’s disorienting camera.

V Rising has been doing great business on Steam since it entered early access in late May. Since its release, the game has reached the top of Steam’s sales charts, sending over a million copies in its first week on sale. A survival role-playing game in the Valheim line, the main wrinkle of the game is that you play a vampire, and the survival needs of a vampire are very different from those of a human being.

Of the many things the game gets right, people seem to love its simple loot system for power and its effective and efficient building controls. Players can build the nightmare gothic cathedral of their wildest fantasies and then live in it. Then the game becomes to defend your new home from the locals who are less than excited about the move of all the vampires.

However, as the game is in early access, it is still very rough. One of the hardest, at least for me personally, is the game camera. The default camera angle is strangely high above the player character. Rotating the camera changes the direction your character faces, which means that in combat you often end up looking in the wrong direction. It’s also quite far from your character and doesn’t really allow for manual control. It was the first major irritation I expressed about the game when I played it with friends over the weekend.

Well, good news. A few inventive modders have already begun to solve the problem.

V Rising mods and how to install them

There are two V Rising mods you need to install to fix the camera, and here they are.

ModernCamera removes the zoom limitations of V Rising, allowing you to place the camera behind your character as a third-person action game.

Another mod, HideInterface does exactly what it says on the can: press F11 and the user interface magically disappears.

These changes are hosted on the Thunderstore.io edit database. If there’s one downside to these changes, it’s that you can only use them in one-player game mode. Mods, unfortunately, will not work in online multiplayer. Anyone can guess whether or not this will change in the future.

Running these mods requires downloading a separate mod called BepInExPack_V_Rising. Extract this zip and drop its contents to the V Rising Steam folder. Now, when you start the game, the BepInEx console will appear before the game starts loading. Make sure the LAN checkbox is selected, start the game, and then exit. The game should have created a BepInEx / plugins folder in the V Rising Steam directory.

Add the ModernCamera and HideInterface .dll files to this plugins folder. And with that, you can start the game and enjoy all that extra control over the game’s camera.
