A man and a woman, both from Toronto, face a number of charges after a series of violent burglaries in Scarborough.
The incident took place on Friday, May 27, around 2:30 a.m. in the Cliffcrest area near Kingston and McCowan Roads.
According to Toronto police, the suspects attended a residential unit and broke down the door.
The suspect then pulled out a knife and demanded that the occupant smooth out cash. He allegedly cut off a male resident when he refused to comply.
The two suspects fled to the unit next door, police said.
This time, they allegedly knocked on the door and forced themselves inside.
Police said the suspect again demanded cash and threatened the victim with a knife. A fight ensued, which caused the victim to suffer cuts to his arm.
Police said cash was eventually provided to the suspects, who fled to a third unit.
Then they called and rushed into a third unit, police said.
Once again, the suspicious man pulled out a knife and demanded cash. When the victim refused, the suspicious man allegedly stabbed him in the chest
The two suspects fled the building.
Officers from the 43rd Division rushed to the scene and located and arrested Derek Prempeh, 29, and Tonya Hambly, 38.
Defendants each face three charges of robbery with a weapon and assault with one weapon, while Prempeh faces three additional charges of non-compliance.
Both went to court on May 27.
