The fall of an iconic Australian actor who has confessed to driving under the influence of drugs has been warned he could be in jail for Christmas.
A beloved Australian actor may soon change his career for time behind bars after he confessed to charges that could lead him to jail.
Vince Colosimo, known for his role as Alphonse Gangitano in the highly successful television series Underbelly, did not face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, as his lawyer indicated he would plead guilty.
The 55-year-old actor was charged with driving without a license and driving drugs after being arrested on St Kilda Road in St Kilda in April 2021.
The drug in his system was methylamphetamine, also known as ice, and his car was confiscated at the same place.
On May 27, prosecutor Bianca Muleta said Colosimo could face a prison sentence, as it is the actor’s fourth set of charges and the second time he is driving under the effects of methamphetamine.
It’s been a sharp drop in disgrace since the actor graced Australian television screens.
Colosimo rose to fame in 2009 with his role in the series Underbelly and starred alongside stars Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio in Body of Lies.
But the actor faced a difficult time in the lead role in 2007 when his 11-year-old partner, Jane Hall, ended their relationship.
Colosimo faced off in court over a public and disorderly battle while the actors fought for a $ 890,000 Northcote home where they lived and raised their daughter Lucia.
It was during this time that he landed the role that would see him shot to stardom in Australia as the underworld gangster nicknamed “The Prince of Lygon Street”.
He was nominated for a Lodge for his performance, but claimed that the popularity of the role harmed his career.
In 2013, Colosimo returned to court and headlines when a law firm claimed he had a $ 30,000 debt and the plaintiff faced bankruptcy proceedings.
The proceedings were suspended, but it was not his last time before a court.
Colosimo was caught driving with a suspended license in May and July 2014 and was fined $ 1,000.
In court, his lawyer revealed that he had started working on construction sites to make money, despite having appeared on television shows such as Schappelle, Fat Tony & Co and It’s A Date.
“Life in action is not highly remunerative,” his lawyer, Patrick Dwyer, told the court at the time.
“Shreds, paints, cleans construction sites between acting roles.”
In January 2017, the actor was again fined $ 1,000 and placed on a 12-month bond of good conduct after being caught with a small amount of ice but not convicted.
It is believed that this incident, which Colosimo claimed to be an “alarm clock”, caused him to lose a spot on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! in 2017.
However, months later, in July, he was caught for the third time driving with his license suspended, but this time under the influence of ice.
Colosimo had a bond of good conduct after the incident six months earlier and a magistrate warned him for the fourth time in court “it wouldn’t be nice.”
Now, the plaintiff will go to court for the fourth time for a statement hearing on Oct. 19.
But not before heading the red carpet of two films to be released this year.
