Wanted man deemed armed and dangerous arrested in Uptown Waterloo

Hours after posting a photo of a man deemed armed and dangerous, Waterloo Regional Police say they arrested a man at a licensed establishment in Uptown Waterloo.

Officials first issued a statement Friday that they had reason to arrest Clayton Hirtle, 22, in connection with a May 9 incident in downtown Kitchener.

On Saturday, police said they arrested Hirtle without incident around 11:45 p.m. the night before at an authorized establishment in the King Street and Bridgeport Road area.

Officers were originally called to the Queen Street South and Charles Street area on May 9 to receive reports of shootings.

At the time, police said they received reports of two black men, one with a handgun, fleeing the area before officers arrived. No injuries were reported.

Police said they had reason to charge Hirtle with the following offenses:

  • Unauthorized firearm tension
  • Have a weapon for dangerous purposes
  • Discharge of firearm – recklessness
  • Reckless use of firearm, weapon, ammunition
  • Carry a concealed weapon
  • Firearm or weapon: possession contrary to the prohibition order
  • Non-compliance with the custodial order (two charges)
