Warm weather to stay in Thompson-Okanagan

Warm weather here to stay

The heat of Okanagan has come to stay.

According to Environment Canada, the weather forecast for the southern interior this week will feature blue skies and rising temperatures, but not before the possibility of storms has spread to the region.

“We have a higher drop coming from the Pacific to the southern interior from today. So this weekend including next Monday we have some rain in the forecast with some risk of storms. As of this evening there there is a risk of storms for the region, so Kelowna, Penticton, Kamloops, ”explained meteorologist Yimei Li.

Environment Canada says there will be a pattern change starting Tuesday with the upper part leaving the southern interior, leaving room for a flat upper ridge to build south of BC.

“I think we’re looking at between 33 and 34 ish for Wednesday, so right now we’re not thinking about any heat warnings for the region, but it will be quite hot on Wednesday and potentially ahead,” he said.

With a forest fire near Lytton, rain is certainly needed in the area, but Environment Canada says the little rain they receive will not be enough to clear the fire.

“There could be a brief relief, but I still think it’s not enough to put out these fires altogether. It’s a little hard to say because there are strong winds in Lytton as well … so now even there are winds about 30 to 50 miles south, so it could make things worse because strong winds will spread the fire north. “

Highs later this week in Okanagan are expected to be 34 degrees in Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon on Wednesday, and 36 in Kamloops on Thursday.
