8:15 pm CST – Heavy storms sparked a new round of tornado warnings in southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba on Thursday evening.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued tornado warnings for the following areas of Saskatchewan:
- Touchwood RM including Serath and Touchwood Hills Prov. Park
- RM of Marquis including Tuxford, Keeler and Buffalo Pound
- RM of Kellross including Kelliher and Lestock
- RM of Sarnia including Holdfast, Chamberlain and Dilke
- Dufferin’s RM including Bethune and Findlater
- RM of Cupar including Southey Cupar and Markinch
- RM of North Qu’appelle included Fort Qu’appelle
- RM of Ituna Good Accord including Ituna and Hubbard
- Lipton RM including Lipton and Dysart
- RM of South Qu’appelle include Qu’appelle i Edgeley
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued tornado warnings for the following areas of Manitoba:
- Mun. of Russell-Binscarth incl. Player Res.
“This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches,” the ECCC said in its warning.
The agency added: “Go inside to a room on the lower floor, away from walls and exterior windows, such as a basement, a bathroom, a staircase or an interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or independent items. take refuge and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie down in a low place and protect your head from flying debris. “

6:04 pm CST: Heavy storms triggered several tornado warnings in southern Saskatchewan early this afternoon. Although these tornado warnings have expired since then, warnings and severe storm warnings continue throughout the region until this afternoon. Stay tuned for weather alerts this afternoon.

A major system will affect all three prairie provinces on Thursday, except for the “kitchen sink,” from eastern Alberta to western Manitoba.
For central Saskatchewan and parts of central and southern Manitoba, in particular, there is a greater risk than severe weather in bubbles.
TORNADO 101: What you need to know to stay safe
Elongated monitoring of the boundary through the central prairies and the higher level trough associated with the western prairies will be the necessary triggers to cause widespread storms during the afternoon and evening hours.
There is a very large hail threat, strong gusts of wind and even some tornado activity where the storms will be strongest. It will be important to keep up to date with weather clocks and warnings that may affect your area.

In parts of southern and central Alberta, the ingredients are also there for funnel clouds to develop with cooler air at altitude.
Storms are likely to continue overnight in eastern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba.

Cooler weather will extend to the east throughout the region over the weekend, with a brief warm-up early next week, followed by temperatures almost below the season for much of the week.
