WATCH: The dramatic fire on the Beverley Boat Yard sends flames firing into the sky

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service attended Beverley Boat Yard near Weel on Saturday evening after a boat caught fire.

The incident took place at approximately 10 pm on Saturday 18 June when a moored boat caught fire on the ship. The fire grew and could be seen from afar.

Three fire engines attended and two hoses and jets were used to deal with the fire. The fire has already been extinguished.

A spokesman for Humberside Fire & Rescue said: “We witnessed a fire in Beverley at around 9.57pm on Saturday after a moored boat caught fire. Three aircraft attended and two hoses and jets were used.”

The Beverley shipbuilding industry was historically important, employing more than 650 people, building more than 1,300 ships, and contributing to World War II efforts. Hundreds of drags were built and many were modified during World War II for military purposes.
