Max Verstappen was the man to beat to win in Montreal, as the championship leader challenged the difficult wet conditions of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to achieve a dominant performance in the standings and seal his first pole position from Imola.

Verstappen made an impressive 1m 21.299 lap with the intermediate tire, to lead his nearest rival Fernando Alonso, second, by 0.645s. Carlos Sainz, third, finished 0.797 seconds behind Verstappen.
