Derby County has officially confirmed that coach Wayne Rooney has informed the club hierarchy of his desire to leave the club and resign.
The Rams boss has issued a statement via the club’s official channel saying: “Over the summer I have been closely following the evolution of Derby County property.
“Today I met with the managers to inform them of my decision that it was time to leave the club. To be fair to them, they worked hard to change my decision, but I made up my mind.
Derby administrators post a “positive and productive” update amid the impasse of takeover Wayne Rooney and his family criticized for swimming with dolphins in captivity in Dubai.
“My time at the club has been a roller coaster of emotions, both up and down, but I must say that I have enjoyed the challenge. Personally, I think now the club needs to be run by someone with fresh energy and not affected by the events that have taken place over the last eighteen months.
“I will remember my time at the Derby with a lot of pride and affection and I would like to thank all my staff, players and, of course, the fans for their incredible support. I will never forget you and I hope to return. see you all in the near future in happier times.
“Finally, I am aware that the club still has interested people who want to take over the management of the club. I tell them this, Derby County is a great club with a great history and a great fan base. I wish you all the best. better and more successful for the future “.
Rooney took on a big job at Pride Park for a senior managerial role, but it didn’t hurt his reputation by being so close to keeping the club in the league after a big points deduction. It was not like that and the Rams were relegated to League One.

A spokesman on behalf of the Derby County Football Club’s joint administrators said: “The joint administrators are very disappointed that Wayne has made the difficult decision to leave the club and today we spent some time trying to persuade him to stay, but understanding the their reasons.to want to go there.
“We are very grateful to him for his excellent work in the face of the difficult circumstances on the field in the 2021/22 season and we admire the way he has led the team, the club and the local community through various problems off the field.
“The joint administrators acknowledge that staff and fans will be frustrated and equally disappointed by this news, but we all wish him, his wife Coleen and his four children every success in the future and we are confident that they will always be welcome back “.
Given that Rooney was so close to surviving a 21-point deduction, there has long been talk of a Premier League club giving the United United goal-scoring record a chance.
If the points deduction were taken into account, Derby would have finished in 17th place in the championship last season with 13 wins in its position. His campaign would have ended with 52 points in his name.
Undoubtedly, most importantly, Rooney established a connection with the Derby fans throughout one of the most difficult moments in the club’s long history; just for that and for that, he will always be remembered with affection.
